I Had to Read This Three Times to Make Sure I Was Actually Reading It

From a sprawling Times piece on the appallingly bullshit contingency plans for solving what is now happening in the Gulf:

The BP plans do consider an uncontrolled blowout, one that releases 240,000 barrels a day into the gulf for at least 100 days — far worse than the current spill.

In the event of such an enormous spill, according to these plans, “no significant adverse impacts are expected” to beaches, wetlands or coast-dwelling birds.

Toby Odone, a BP spokesman, said in an e-mail message that the company’s oil spill response plan was “fully approved” by the Minerals Management Service. 

That last bit of govt corruption is no surprise, nor is any of it, I guess. But STILL. Also: A scientist on the govt's Flow Rate Technical Group says it's quite conceivable that the oil may be gushing more than 100K barrels/day, which is BP's worst-case scenario, which they always seem to end up at anyway.
